The goal of this program is to describe the diagnosis and treatment of anxiety disorders, with particular emphasis on generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and panic disorder.
Educational Objectives:
1. Recognize the typical features of individual anxiety disorders.
2. Describe the role of neurotransmitters in the development of anxiety disorders.
3. Confidently diagnose GAD and panic disorder.
4. Consider the benefits and risks of types of medication commonly used to treat anxiety disorders in general, and, in particular, GAD and panic disorder.
5. Discuss with patients considerations for effective use of medications, as well as nonpharmacologic options that may improve the probability of a successful treatment outcome.
